This policy explains what personal data we process when you use PocketGPT (the website, the account and the “Ask in PocketGPT” page that opens on your reader), and what rights you have. We aim to collect only what is needed for the service to work.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is the owner of the PocketGPT service (“we”). For any questions about your data, write to [email protected].
2. What data we process
Account and subscription
- your email address and login details;
- the data Patreon provides when you connect a subscription: user ID, subscription status and tier. We do not receive or store your bank card details — all payments are handled entirely by Patreon.
Devices and installation
- the model and type of your reader (e.g. Kobo), the settings you choose, and device identifiers needed to link devices to your account;
- interface settings: language, list of quick questions, credits.
Your requests to the AI
- the quote you have highlighted, the book title and the author’s name, sent from the reader’s page;
- your questions and the AI’s answers.
Please do not paste passwords, documents, medical or other data you do not want to share with third parties into your questions.
Technical data
- IP address, browser and device type, date and time of requests, errors. These are needed for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.
3. Why we do it
- Providing the service — answering requests, maintaining your account, checking your subscription, configuring devices (performance of a contract);
- Security and abuse prevention — preventing fraud and overload (our legitimate interest);
- Support and improvement — answering emails, fixing bugs (our legitimate interest);
- Complying with legal obligations when they arise.
We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for advertising profiling.
4. AI providers and web search
To answer your question, we pass your request (the quote, book title, author and the question) to third-party AI model providers. When an answer needs fresh information, the AI may search the web; parts of your question or quote may be included in the search query. All of this happens on our servers and at our providers, not on your reader. We send providers only what is needed to produce the answer, and we never send your email address or payment details.
5. Who we share data with
- Patreon — subscriptions and payments (their own privacy policy applies);
- AI and search providers — to produce answers;
- hosting and email services — to run the website and correspondence;
- government bodies — only when required by law.
These parties process the data on our instructions or on their own grounds and are obliged to protect it.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use essential cookies: they keep you signed in and remember settings. Analytics cookies may also apply. You can delete cookies in your browser settings, but then you will have to sign in again.
7. How long we keep data
We keep account data while you use the service. Request history and technical logs are kept no longer than needed for operating the service, security and support. After an account is deleted we erase or de-identify your data, except what must be retained by law or to prevent abuse.
8. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), restrict access to data and keep our systems up to date. No service can guarantee absolute protection, so we also ask you to take care of the security of your own account and device.
9. Your rights
You can contact us to:
- get a copy of the data we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate data;
- delete your account and data;
- restrict processing or object to it;
- receive your data in a portable format (data portability).
We will respond within 30 days.
10. International transfers
Our providers may host servers in different countries, including outside the EU. In such cases we aim to work with providers that ensure an adequate level of protection.
11. Children
The service is not intended for children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with data, write to us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The current version is always here, with the last-update date at the top. For material changes we will notify you by email or on the website.
